A debate is contention in argument. It is a formal discussion which gives students room to voice their opinion. The knowledge they gain through this is unparalleled. Debating promotes proficiency in articulation of thoughts and public speaking.

An Inter house debate competition for Senior School was organized at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy, Dehradun on 23rd August, 2024. The occasion was graced by Ms. Bharti Vishnoi, the Principal of the school and teachers.

The topic for the debate this year was “ChatGPT should be regulated by the governments worldwide”, the speakers from all the four houses vied for honours. The competition was adjudged by Ms. Sunita Panwar, Ms. Komal Dhingra andMs.. Bella Tiwari. The debate was chaired by Master Sourish Bahuguna.

All teams exhibited oratorical skills and put the house on fire by their logical arguments and factual accuracy. Our young participants appeared in a state of frenzy during the oratory session. Each speaker came up with his or her opinion. They emphasized the concerns about potential impacts on society, also raised the issues related to privacy, accountability and transparency. Chat GPT, s powers have elicited concerns over both misinformation and academic cheating, prompting policy makers to call for ChatGPT regulation to proactively restrain artificial intelligence (AI) tools in its early stages. They also mentioned that any form of government regulation is against the freedom of expression. They could convince the audience with their answers in rebuttal.

The speakers of Satpura House dazzled the audience with their brilliant oratory skills and were declared winners. Aditi Chaudhary of Satpura House was adjudged the best speaker. Shivalik House was declared runners up and Pragati Bhatt bagged the second position and the third position went to Ridhima Bhatnagar of Vindhya House.

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand and determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” This quote embodies the spirit of every speaker who presented the debate and the new faces also revealed their skills. All the debaters have left a deep impression on the mind of the audience.
