A. C. Deb Inter school Debate
A debate is contention in argument. It is a formal discussion which gives students room to voice their opinion. The knowledge they gain through this, is simply unparalled. Debating promotes proficiency in articulation of thought and public speaking.
An Inter school debate competition was organized by RRRA in the memory of the founder of the school. Late A. C. Deb. Nineteen schools have participated, out of which four schools were from Delhi and Noida. Dr. P,S Kalra, the principal of Green Wood Hills school Dehradun was the chief guest for the occasion and after his welcome the debate commenced. The occasion was graced by Ms. Bharti Vishnoi, Principal Raja Rammohan Roy Academy, Mrs. Tripti Chopra Head Mistress RRRA, teachers and other esteemed guests.
The topic for the debate this year was ‘Globalization is eroding cultural identity and ethics’ , the speakers from various schools vied for honors.
The competition was adjudged by Mrs. Sadhna Jairaj, a prominent figure in the town , a naturalist, founder of Anand Van , Dehradun, Mrs. Savita Bali Dhand, an entrepreneur, owner of Karigari, Mrs. Rachna Malhotra, a retired Master in English, RIMC, Dehradun. Aditi Chaudhary Was the moderator and Aditya Raj and Samiksha Maurya of RRRA.
All the teams exhibited oratorical skills and put the house on fire with their logical arguments and factual accuracy. Our young participants appeared in a state of frenzy during the oratory session. Each speaker came up with his/her opinion in redefining the proposition and presented compelling argument to support their perspective.
At the end of the heated but interesting debate which lasted for three and a half hours,. Shambhavi Vats and Arnav Vats of Raja Rammohan Roy scored the highest points , since they were not the contestents , they were honoured by Dr. P.S. Kalra with the certificates of participation.Touchwood school, Dehradun walked away with the coveted trophy. The second place went to St. Thomas’s College , Dehradu.n . Tista Hijli of Cambridge school , Indrapuram was adjudged the best speaker while Karan Chaudhary was the second best speaker.
The chief guest Dr. P.S. Kalra while addressing the gathering shared some tips of oratory skills, On behalf of all the three judges Mrs. Rachna Malhotra motivated the speakers and appreciated the speakers for their articulate presentation and logical skills. Ms. Bharti Vishnoi also addressed the gathering. She appreciated the speakers for their oration and emphasized on more participation next year as it fosters creativity and logical skills in students.
Dhairya Tiwari, RRRA, proposed a vote of thanks. Tanisha Gulati and Dhairya Tiwari were the hosts of the event. Everyone left with the words of appreciation
